About the Wilmington Ballet Company
Cape Fear's Premiere Professional Ballet Company
The Wilmington Ballet Company and Dance Theater is the only non-profit professional ballet company in the Cape Fear region and reaches thousands of people in our community annually. For the first time in Wilmington's history, a non-profit local ballet company has achieved a professional division. Since 1999, the ballet company has staged amazing productions with over 200 locals dancers each year. With over a dozen resident professional ballet dancers and both an apprentice and trainee program, Wilmington Ballet Company will create spectacular ballets never before imagined for our coastal community.
The trainee level bridges the gap for the post high school student between being a student and being a professional.
Dancers apply for admission into the trainee program. If accepted, they are awarded a trainee contract.
Trainee contracts are one or two years and guarantee a professional contract at the completion of the trainee program.
Trainees perform in all three season performances and community performances. Trainees train a minimum of 5 days per week and rehearse throughout the week.
Apprentice Professionals perform in three classical ballets, seasonal contemporary showcases, and community involvement work
Apprentices may be awarded stipends based on skill. Partial or full scholarships may be awarded to apprentices based on skill.
Apprentices will be given special consideration in casting and in future professional contracts
